Staffa - Scotland's Alien Isle
We're still on the isle of Mull on the West Coast of Scotland, but today we are off on an excursion to Staffa which is 7 miles to the west of Mull and looks to us like a set from Star Trek. There we are astonished at the incredible Fingal's cave before going up to the cliffs to see the puffins. What a fantastic day!

We're off on our adventures again and we'll be heading for the isle of Mull on the west coast of Scotland, but on the way we stop over at Cobleland campsite by Aberfoyle and it's a good chance for us to show you some modifications that we've made to the van.
SWIFT Carrera 144 : Our Ten-Week Review
Переглядів 7 тис.28 днів тому
We've been touring France in our SWIFT Carrera 144 for ten weeks, and this was partly to give the new van a good shakedown, and to find out if there's anything that we would change. Also we wanted to learn a bit more about ourselves - it's the longest we have ever been away holidaying in a van so how exactly do we feel about it?

We have moved on again and this time we're on Oleron Island, where we seek out the very best view of Fort Boyard, and Mike faces his fear of heights by going up a 46m high lighthouse. All this and much more in this episode.
The Curious Case of the Lost Cheese

I noticed you mention diswashing liquid in your windscreen washing. I have been told to avoid dishwashing liquid when washing a car and or windscreen. Apparently, dishwashing liquids can have salt as one of their ingredients because salt is a good cleaner. Now, you don't want salt residue building up in chassis rails and nooks and crannies. 😮

Fabulous video. Really enjoyed the trip to Staffa. A definite must do next time we go to Mull. Which caravan site did you stay on, it looks really nice.

Fabulous video, Mike. Took me right back to a last minute trip about 12 years ago when I booked myself into an old caravan in the corner of a croft just outside Bunessan for a week on my own with my (stills) cameras. I took a trip out to Staffa from the Iona side but on the day there was a 2 metre swell running so instead of landing the boatman took us all round the island (the waves were breaking over the rock that Trish was taking photos from, outside the cave!). I went back the next day for a second trip and we got onto the island and into the cave ... or should that be 'cathedral'. Its a wonderful part of the world. I also spent 3 days walking on Iona in lovely blue-sky warm weather. I must look out my old hard drives and see if I might make a video of my still images with a voiceover from the journal I kept of my adventures. Thanks to You, Trish and Kiera for the memory.

@@lostinlivi Hi Donald glad that brought back these memories and thanks for sharing them. Seeing Staffa at first hand is not something that is easily forgotten. We didn't get to Iona, really wanted to go but it was food or ferry and food won 🤣👍🐾💕

Last time we went, husband went to the cave where he was lucky enough to hear one of the passengers sing. The acoustics were amazing but then they are famous after Mendelssohns The Hebrides. I decided to go to see the puffins which was a fabulous experience. I just sat on the ground with puffins at my feet. What joy! Thank goodness that day the sun shone for you. I loved the glimpses of the road down to Fionnphort. We usually stay near Bunessan which you drove through. There are some fantastic beaches down that end of Mull. Looking forward to your next episode. Happy travels

Finials cave and giant’s causeway are linked in the mythical tale between the Irish Giant Finn(Fingal) McCool and Scottish Giant Beandonner who was bigger than Finn. They didn’t like each other and although they never met, they liked to throw insults at each other across the ocean . They challenged each other to a fight to the death and a bridge was built between Staffa and the Giant’s Causeway. Fingal being smaller knew he had to outwit his Scottish opponent. His wife wrapped him in a huge sheet like a newborn baby. When Beandonner finally arrived and demanded to battle his opponent there and then, he was told Fingal was out hunting could he not see it was just his wife and the baby in the homestead? When Benandnner looked into the crib, he was shocked at how big Finn’S newborn was and thought the father must be ginormous.he wasn’t going to wait around to find out, so he raced back to Staffa destroying the bridge as he went until he reached the safety of his cave. It seems that as well as winning the cued, Fingal’s prize included the title of the incredible cave on Staffa.

I went there 30 years ago and this took me back. Like you we went right inside the cave. It was interesting to realise that Felix Mendelssohn composed the Hebrides Overture after visiting Staffa and Fingal's cave and to stand in the cave
